Open 3D Engine Foundation

The Open 3D Engine Foundation exists to keep the Open 3D Engine open. The engine is a full-featured 3D engine that anyone can build games with, and the foundation is the nonprofit that stewards it.

Why a foundation

A game engine is only as useful as the people who maintain it. A single company can change the license, the direction, or the roadmap at any time. A foundation puts the project outside any one company’s control, so the engine stays open, vendor-neutral, and community-driven.

What the foundation does

The foundation holds the trademarks, manages the contributor agreements, and funds the work that keeps the engine current: build infrastructure, documentation, and the release process. The community does the rest, and it does a lot of it.

The result

The engine keeps shipping, the community keeps growing, and the work belongs to the people who use it instead of to one vendor.
